Annual Report Documents Changes at Authority

The State Liquor Authority ‘s recently published 2006 Annual Report documents the agency’s work over the past year and demonstrates the improvements made by the Authority’s new leadership team. The report is thorough and professional – a hallmark of the current leadership. The report, like the work it captures, is a stark contrast to its predecessors. Under the previous administration at the State Liquor Authority annual reports were rare, although required by law. An agency that won’t follow the rules imposed on it has little credibility enforcing rules on the businesses it regulates.

Merely publishing an annual report is not enough to cause praise for the current administration. But, the Authority’s focus on problem premises, creation of a task force to seek recommendations for changes to the on-premises licensing process (including industry representatives), and openness to changing outdated regulatory practices are reasons to commend the SLA’s recent accomplishments and be hopeful for the future. You can read the report online at http://abc.state.ny.us/forms/2006AnnualReport.pdf and see for yourself.
