Madison County Board of Supervisors Considers Drinking Age Resolution
The Madison County Board of Supervisors tabled a discussion about the debate over the legal drinking age saying they needed more information about the coalition of college presidents nationwide who say current laws actually encourage dangerous binge drinking on campuses.
The resolution before the board urges community leaders, college officials and local law enforcement officials to support and enforce the current legal drinking age. It was drafted by the county’s new STOP-DWI Coordinator and passed unanimously by the board’s criminal justice committee in response to the college presidents’ Amethyst Initiative.
The Supervisors want to learn more about the issue before voting on the resolution. Several Supervisors expressed a desire not to rush through the discussion the college presidents want to have on this topic. The resolution is expected to come up again at the board’s November meeting. |
